Reverse ADU
This project was for a family looking for a retreat from the City. It just so happened that Grandma and Grandpa were up in wine country, and the idea was born to create a ‘reverse granny unit’. A place for them to stay on site, and an opportunity for the three generations to spend more time together.
The design intent was to knit this new building, pool, and spa into the beautiful landscape, take advantage of the commanding views of the valley, while simultaneously not interrupting the views that the main house enjoys.
This led to the solution of a simple green roof covering a series of spaces – some enclosed, some not – cut into the hillside. This approach created a wonderful collection of found spaces, integrated with the surrounding landscape.
The project team was essential to delivering a sublime execution of this simple concept:
Lucs & Lucas – Landscape Architect
Nicole Hollis – Interior Designer
Cello & Maudru – General Contractor
